Who We Are
We are a small volunteer group of Iraqi-Assyrian diaspora families who have completed the citizenship and civil status process from the United States and Europe. We created iraqicitizenship.org to document the first-hand steps, forms, and lessons we wish we had when we started.
Many of us also volunteer with The Return (the-return.co), an initiative focused on helping Assyrians and other minorities abroad reconnect with opportunities, heritage, and community back home. The same ethos of practical, peer-led support powers this citizenship guide.
How We Source Information
- First-hand experience completing consular appointments in Los Angeles, Detroit, Washington, D.C., and Baghdad.
- Interviews with relatives in Erbil, Duhok, Baghdad, and Basra who regularly process citizenship paperwork.
- Official guidance from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and consulate announcements (linked throughout the main guide).
We update the site at least once per quarter or whenever the Ministry of Interior or consulates publish new requirements. Each update logs the change in our internal notes and the Last updated date on the homepage.
